Several of our members participated in a club fundraiser at the Tack Swap held by Mad Tack in Madison County. They set up a table full of goodies and drinks to sell. All the participants had fun and we made money too!! GOOD JOB!!

Our club went to Pots & Palettes on Sophia Street in downstown Fredericksburg on Friday, July 11th. The kids and some of the parents painted some really cute pottery pieces. A few pictures of some of our artwork can be found under the photos tab. If you have never tried it, it is a relaxing, fun way to spend the evening. Katherine is a great host!

We are pleased to report that our club held a successful fundraiser event at Gander Mountain on Saturday, August 17th. We thank the management of Gander Mountain for letting us invade their parking lot so we could raise money. We held not just a concession stand with wonderful baked goods, hot dogs, hamburgers, and homemade macaroni & cheese, but also a car wash. Take a look at all pictures showing how much fun we had with the concession stand and the teamwork displayed, especially when Beth Linton showed up with her big truck and ginormous horse trailer. Thanks, Beth, for supporting our club! You are always welcome to bring your trailer to our car washes. We are up to the task!

Our club welcomed back Woodside Equine Clinic at our August 14th meeting. Dr. Charlotte Tate was kind enough to join us for the evening to educate our members on equine first aid. This is especially important because we have some young ladies going to the 4-H State Show in September and we would like for them to be prepared should an incident occur. In the presentation, Dr. Tate showed us the proper methods to handle situations like cuts, illness, etc.
Thank you, Charlotte, for devoting your time to help educate our members! Pictures of this event can be seen under the photos link.

Whether you were a runner or a spectator in the Marine Corp. Half Marathon held in Fredericksburg on Sunday, May 19th, you could not help but notice the enthusiastic group of cheerers wearing neon yellow shirts near the Virginia Partners Bank on Cowan Boulevard. Our club was approached by Homes For Our Troops about if we would help support them at the Marathon, and we were out there on Hospital Hill as early as 6:30 AM to encourage the thousands of runners to carry through their mission of finishing the race. Even though it drizzled at times, our spirits were not dampened. It was truly encouraging for us to see how some of the runners really seemed to become reinvigorated by our cheers egging them on. Believe it or not, some even managed to squeeze out a smile between painful strides.
Certainly a community service project we will want to do again next year. Our thanks to those who serve our country and may God bless them and their families!

Our Club participated in the Spotsylvania Christmas Parade at Spotsylvania Courthouse on Saturday, December 1st. The theme was a Hawaiian Christmas. A special thanks to Annette Clements for working behind the scenes to get the tiki umbrellas and props made and thanks to our special friend by the name of Erin who did such a wonderful job making the banner that led our crew. Ashley and Kristen livened things up by bringing along a furry equine friend that looked ready to catch the next wave. Although our goal was just to have fun, we are proud to say that we got first place in the equine division. Thanks to all who were able to come out and participate! It could not have happened without your support.

One of the principles 4-H teaches to help develop future leaders is learning to give back to the community. The members of our club voted to adopt a family for the Christmas holiday through the Spotsylvania County Social Services Department. We are very proud of this group of young ladies that went out and purchased new toys and clothes for the children, plus donated money so the family could enjoy a nice holiday dinner. It is truly better to give than to receive and our members are exhibiting the true meaning of Christmas by reaching out to help members of our community that are in need this holiday season. These girls won't be getting a lump of coal in their stockings!

There are some really super cool pictures posted of our club members and their families having a LOT of fun at our fun show at Westwood Horse Center. We had games for both riders and non-riders, a costume (rider and horse) contest, and good food. Thanks to Annette's husband for cooking the hot dogs on the grill and to Annette and Ashley for orchestrating this fun-filled event. Believe it or not, this is the same day when we were expecting Hurricane Sandy to come through that night, so we were trying to beat the storm! Thanks to Melissa Buckley for being our photographer!
