Bits & Pearls 4H Club

      Bits & Pearls 4-H Club

               Spotsylvania, VA

Thank You for Visiting Us on Our Web Page!

Who Are These Great Kids?

Bits & Pearls is a 4-H Club that emerged in Spotsylvania County in October 2012. Two common interests these kids share are their passion for our beloved equine friends and learning to be future leaders of our community.  Having a horse or pony is NOT a requirement, only wanting to learn more about them.

4-H is sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension and the program was created to bring the latest research knowledge generated at the land grant universities (Virginia Tech and Virginia State) to local communities. Our goal is to help these young people grow into capable, responsible, confident members of our community by providing information, opportunities, activities, and events that are educational, developmental, and fun. The 4-H motto is: "To make the best better."

Membership is open to both boys and girls from 5 - 19 years of age, regardless of race, religion, color, gender, national origin, handicap, or place of residence.

There are many benefits of 4-H and this club:  Learning leadership skills, hippology (the study of horses), horse judging, and making oral presentations. Essentially, they learn by doing. Our kids also participate in community service projects to instill the importance of helping others and giving back to the community. 4-H is a non-profit youth development, educational program of the Virginia Cooperative Extension. 4-H leaders and volunteers are committed to working with club members to help them gain additional knowledge, life skills, and attitudes that will further their development as self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society.

Effective October 2014, all meetings and hippology study sessions will be conveniently held on the same date at The Marshall Center, 8800 Courthouse Road, Spotsylvania, VA, in the Simpson Room (first floor on the end near the Forestry Department). Hippology will start at 6:00 PM and the regular club meeting will start at 7:00 PM.  We meet the second Monday of each month, but continue to check our website for updates.

We look forward to having a wonderful year of learning and fun with each and every one of you!   For more information about 4H, feel free to contact our local Cooperative Extension Office:  or 540-507-7570.
